Articles

My freelance writing career remains a healthy endeavor. I write as often as I can these days on as many diverse subjects as possible. Over the years, I have come to specialize in the career space, writing for the jobseeker on trends, methods and situational workplace counseling. I also have a very healthy resume writing about holidays, parenting, baseball, politics and general news.

For those looking to evaluate my style, I offer the following samples of my work. For a broader scope of my publishing experience I encourage you to simply Google my name — you’ll find dozens of articles I’ve written for various venues over the years available online.

I remain available for project work. My pricing depends upon the needs of the project, the time required to complete it and my familiarity with the topic. Please contact me with details of your needs for a specific bid.

If Not Now, When?
Of all the articles I’ve ever written none have drawn as much interactive response as this piece about doing what you love for a living. It tells the true story of a Salt Lake City man who got through med school but could not stomach the idea of actually being a doctor.

Sex, Jobs and Rock and Roll
Written back in 1999, this provocatively titled article about recreational online activities in the workplace was a little ahead of it’s time.

Coming Home: A Daddy Dilemma
He has a tough day at work while she endures total chaos at home. What happens when these worlds of Dad and Mom collide often leads to epic family issues. In this article the impatient Dad gets a little advice about how to walk through the door at the end of the day.

The Tragedy of Being Right
Being a parent means sometimes making unpopular declarations and decisions. You never hope to be wrong in those actions. But you sometimes hope you’re not right either.

Clement Clarke Moore: Father, Patriot and Poet
A biographical feature of the author of “A Visit From St. Nicholoas”.

A Fat Man’s Holiday
This represents a little more of the fun side of my creative writing. This article is presented under the pen name of Elf Ed Zachary, my alter ego. He is not your every day elf. He is a little cantankerous, a little edgy and sometimes a bit, well, impatient. He is also absolutely brilliant. When the more dubious kids out there ask the really tough questions, nobody can explain the mysteries of Santa Claus better than Elf Ed. Officially, he is a writer for the North Pole Gazette who publishes a regular column that is featured at My Merry Christmas. Unofficially, he’s me.
